Displaying an affinity for the kind of lyricism & lush chords of a Keith Jarrett or Bill Evans, "Lost in Time" is a 12-song collection of original, piano-only jazz compositions filled with quiet intensity. "There Will Be Peace" & "Song to An Empty Room," with their solemn & moving melodies, are highlights of Walter's expansiveness, each clocking in at over 6 minutes, as the composer explores every nuance of his themes. The more up-tempo "Wosa" hints at pop sensibilities before drawing back upon its jazz roots, while title-track, "Lost in Time," works the upper registers in an other-worldly performance of real beauty. As overdue introductions go, John Walter's "Lost in Time" CD is a much-appreciated look at an artist stepping out of the shadows as an accompanist to spotlight his own considerable talents as a composer & jazz pianist.

"Silhouettes" by Kathryn Woodard features her exploration of classical cross cultural piano music. Kathryn demonstrates dynamic feelings with a strict sense of time. Each piece gives the feeling that a story is being told, despite the fact that there are no lyrics. The piano has a mellow but crisp inviting sound that is soothing to the body and mind. The recording quality brings out the brightness and clarity of the upper register keys while the lower keys are deep and rich. "Seven Poems, No. 2," an upbeat piece, presents a flowing chromatic scale on the upper keys, trills and turns, and a tremolo on the bass keys. "Silhouettes: Stravinsky" has a great staccato feel. Contrary motion is heard throughout this lively piece and the dissonance between notes is pleasing to hear. "Silhouettes" is a fantastic album, as each song has its own uniqueness and style with tempos varying from slow and serene to upbeat and happy.

“Leaving Israel” by Jenni Thompson (Classical Piano Artist from United Kingdom)

"Leaving Israel" is the debut single from UK composer/arranger Jenni Thompson. Although she is primarily a jazz vocalist and violinist, Thompson shows off her talents as a pianist and, more precisely, as a classical pianist on the track. The single is an original composition written just after a life-changing trip Thompson took to Israel in the summer of 2007. The song begins slowly but quickly moves into a beautiful and haunting build. Thompson pays attention to the entire piano as she keeps the rhythm with the lower keys whilst playing a sweet progression with the higher keys. The song befits the music and would be a perfect soundtrack to a scene in a film where someone is looking sentimentally out of a window while flying away from Israel, or anywhere really. "Leaving Israel" is well-recorded, and Thompson's piano work sounds clean and professional. Though only one track, "Leaving Israel" reveals Jenni Thompson's talents as a composer/arranger and pianist to the world, leaving you eagerly awaiting what her debut full-length, "A Portrait of Jenni," will have to offer. Fans of original classical piano are going to want to pick this one up.
